We’re thrilled to share some incredible news — Incremental has been presented with the King’s Award for Enterprise 2024 in the category of Innovation.
The award is a significant recognition of our continued work transforming the UK rail industry through cutting-edge software solutions. It was presented to us in a special ceremony at our new offices in West Offices, York.
A Royal Honour, Delivered Locally
The Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Mrs. Johanna Ropner, His Majesty’s official representative in the county, visited our team to present the award on behalf of King Charles III. We were also proud to welcome:
Mr. David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire
Cllr Pete Kilbane, Executive Member for Economy and Culture, City of York Council
CEO Daniel Lee-Bursnall and returning co-founder and CTO Lewis Gill accepted the award on behalf of Incremental, with our team present to celebrate the moment together. This is our second time receiving this national honour, having previously won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2019, also for Innovation.
Celebrating Our Team and Innovation in Rail
Reflecting on the award, the Lord-Lieutenant shared:
“It was a real pleasure to present Incremental with the King’s Award for Enterprise on behalf of His Majesty, King Charles III. This prestigious recognition reflects the company’s outstanding innovation and its significant contribution to the UK rail industry. Incremental represents the very best of Yorkshire’s talent and ambition — a business with local roots making a national and international impact.”
Our CEO, Dan Lee-Bursnall, said:
“We are deeply grateful to His Majesty The King, Charles III, for awarding this accolade to Incremental; and to the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire for kindly presenting us with this award. It is a real honour to represent the Incremental team for all the hard work that has been put in over the years. This award is a testament to the team’s collective dedication and innovation.
We are also grateful to the City of York Council for their continued support, and to all our partners, customers, and teammates who’ve helped shape our journey so far.”
Co-founder and CTO Lewis Gill, who recently rejoined Incremental, and who is Munich-based, added:
“Returning to Incremental feels like coming home. I am excited to contribute to our ongoing journey of innovation and excellence, and what a proud and apt moment to receive this award alongside Dan and team Incremental.”
Supporting Innovation in York and Beyond
Guests from across the region highlighted what this means for York’s innovation economy:
Mayor David Skaith said:
“This significant achievement underscores the innovative spirit we have right here in York and North Yorkshire. Incremental’s commitment to pushing boundaries is exactly why our region is gaining a reputation as a centre for technological excellence.”
Cllr Pete Kilbane added:
“It’s great to see an innovative York business recognised by King Charles, and I’d like to congratulate the whole team at Incremental on this huge achievement. Ensuring the success of our city’s rail sector is key to securing well-paid, skilled jobs for York.”
